Vermaaklikheid is a rural community on the Duiwenhoks River, about 300km from Cape Town and 40km from the nearest town of Riversdale.
Whilst holiday makers enjoy its rural beauty, the majority of permanent residents are isolated with limited employment opportunities.
There are inadequate basic services, no investment in jobs or skills development & poor cross-community cooperation & trust.
Methamphetamine and Alcohol abuse is rife amongst adults & children, leading to widespread crime and dysfunctional family life.
Vermaakverbeter falls under the auspices of the Duiwenhoks Conservancy, a non-profit organisation formed in 2000.
The Duiwenhoks Conservancy is made up of local stakeholders who are committed to conserving the village of Vermaaklikheid, the Duiwenhoks river valley and surrounding area for the benefit of all communities.
Vermaakverbeter is a program dedicated to empowering the children of Vermaaklikheid by improving their access to technology and education.
Project Objectives:
Our primary goals include:
Providing children in Vermaaklikheid with educational support & access to computers after school, ensuring they have the resources needed for learning and research.
Enhancing their computer literacy, which is essential in today’s digital age.
Creating a safe and supervised space where learners can receive assistance with their homework and collaborate with peers.
Assisting older learners in exploring career options and completing applications using the available technology.
Providing emotional support and mentorship to learners where required.
